HawkRobo Controller — Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 4, 2026

HawkRobo System LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the HawkRobo Controller mobile application (the “App”). The App runs on dedicated Android-based remote controllers and is used to operate HawkRobo robots, including the Scout platform (a small tactical quadruped robot for public safety) and other robot platforms we may develop or deploy in the future.

This Privacy Policy explains what information the App does — and, more importantly, does not — collect. By installing or using the App, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you have any concerns about this policy, or if your organization has specific privacy or security requirements, please reach out to us (Section 12) — we may be able to custom-build a version of the App tailored to meet your privacy needs.

1. Our privacy commitment

We do not collect any information from you, from the App, or from your robot. This applies to the Scout platform and to any current or future HawkRobo robot platform operated through the App. We do not collect personal information, usage analytics, telemetry, location data, sensor data, video, audio, or any other data from the App, the remote controller, the robot, or its payload devices, and we do not transmit any such data to our servers or to third parties.

We built the App this way deliberately. Our platforms are designed for public safety and other professional field operations, where data privacy and security are mission-critical. Your operational data belongs to you and stays with you.

2. Offline by design — no permission prompts in normal use

The App and the Scout platform are fully functional without any Internet or Wi-Fi connection. Robot control, live video from the robot, and all core features operate entirely over the direct, local radio link between the remote controller and the robot.

  • No Internet connection is required or used for normal operation.
  • No permission prompts appear at first launch or during standard use. You are only ever asked for permission when you turn on an optional feature that needs it (Section 3).
  • No accounts or sign-ins are required. The App has no login, and we do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, credentials, or payment information.

3. Optional features and the permissions they ask for

A few optional features need your permission before they can work. They are all off by default, they never start on their own, and the App asks for the permission only at the moment you turn the feature on. If you never use these features, you will never see these prompts.

Permission When you’ll see the prompt What it’s used for
Microphone Only when you turn on two-way audio Stream your voice to the robot so you can talk through it. Never used at any other time, and never sent to us.
Screen recording, plus a notification Only when you start screen sharing Show your controller’s screen to the spectators you invite. The notification stays on screen so you always know sharing is active.
Location Only if a screen-sharing Wi-Fi step requires it An Android technicality: on many devices, Android requires this permission before any app can read Wi-Fi network details. The App never tracks your location and never sends location anywhere.

You can stop any of these features at any time, and you can take back a permission at any time in Android Settings → Apps → HawkRobo Controller → Permissions. Doing so only turns off that optional feature — everything else keeps working. Like every Android app, the App also uses a few standard technical permissions (such as network access) that Android grants automatically; these involve no personal information.

4. Two-way audio — off by default

If you enable remote audio streaming to the robot — typically used together with the ability to listen in through the robot’s microphone, forming two-way audio communication — the App requires the microphone permission to pick up your voice on the remote controller. Audio is streamed live between the remote controller and the robot for the duration of the session. We do not receive, store, or process this audio, and it is not recorded unless you separately enable the recording feature described in Section 5.

5. Recording — off by default

By default, the App, the robot, and its payload devices do not record any video or audio in any form. No recording occurs unless you explicitly enable the recording feature.

If you choose to enable recording, video and audio are recorded only onto a specific payload device, on a removable micro-SD card that you control. We currently offer no other means of recording: nothing is recorded to the robot itself, nothing is recorded to the remote controller device, and nothing is uploaded to us or to any cloud service. Recordings remain entirely in your physical possession, and you can delete them at any time by removing or erasing the micro-SD card.

Because you control when recording occurs and what is captured, you are responsible for complying with applicable laws in your jurisdiction, such as audio/video recording consent and surveillance laws, when using this feature.

6. Screen sharing and third-party transport

If you enable screen sharing, the contents of the remote controller’s screen are transmitted over Wi-Fi or 4G LTE to the spectators in your session. This is the only feature of the App that uses an Internet connection, and it works only if you both grant the screen recording permission and connect the remote controller to Wi-Fi or 4G LTE.

Screen-share sessions are delivered using a third-party real-time transport service, LiveKit, which processes session data under its own privacy policy (available at livekit.io/privacy). Short-lived session tokens are used to establish the connection and expire automatically. We do not view, record, or retain your screen-share content.

Robots control traffic and live robot video never passes through this or any other cloud service; they remain on the direct local link between the controller and the robot at all times.

7. Data sharing

We have no user data to sell, rent, or share, and we do not sell personal information. The only times data leaves your devices are the ones you start yourself: your voice streamed to your robot during two-way audio, your screen shown to the spectators you invite during screen sharing (carried by LiveKit as described in Section 6), and recordings you make onto your own micro-SD card. If we are ever legally compelled to disclose information, we could only provide what we hold — which, as described above, is nothing about your operations. If you email our support team, we receive only what you choose to send and use it solely to respond to you.

8. Data security

The App’s design is itself our strongest security measure: your operational data never leaves your equipment, so there is no server-side copy to breach. Robot control and video travel only over the direct local radio link between the controller and the robot. Screen-share sessions are established with short-lived, automatically expiring tokens and are encrypted in transit. Recordings exist only on a micro-SD card in your physical possession.

9. Data retention and deletion

We retain no user data because we collect none, and the App has no accounts to delete. Data that exists stays on your own equipment and is deleted by you: App settings are removed when you clear the App’s data or uninstall the App (Android Settings → Apps → HawkRobo Controller → Storage → Clear data), and recordings are removed by erasing or removing the micro-SD card in the payload device. Screen-share session tokens expire automatically.

10. Your choices and rights

Depending on your location, you may have legal rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of personal information. Because we do not collect your personal information, in most cases there will be nothing for us to act on — but you can always decline the optional features, revoke permissions in Android Settings, clear the App’s local data, or uninstall the App entirely. To exercise privacy rights or ask questions, contact us using the details in Section 11.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example when we introduce new robot platforms or features. We will post the revised policy with a new effective date, and material changes may also be communicated in the App or on our website. Continued use of the App after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
